For your blog this week, think of
someone (e.g., family member, celebrity, politician, friend, or professor) who
demonstrates competent communication within a particular context. What
behaviors does this person exhibit that make him or her effective? Would you
want to model some of your own communication behaviors after this person? Why
or why not?
My former supervisor
is the person that comes to my mind right away.
He is one competent communicator that I have always admire when I hear him
speak at meetings or with other employees.
He is not only a great communicator that shows empathy and competence,
but he is a great listener. His use of
language and nonverbal behavior makes anyone feel comfortable to speak with him. I like that he is always very positive even
in the mist of something happening. He
is very understanding, thoughtful and the sympathy he portrays is very
real. I have also noticed how well he
understands culture competence when it comes to race, gender and ethnicity. He
is a very genuine person that makes it very easy for anyone to approach him and
want to talk to him.
I would
definitely want to model many of his own communication behaviors that he
has. His skills and abilities with
communicating with everyone is something that I would like to learn and model.
