Week 8 Blog

Final Blog Assignment
This course has been foundational in learning more about international early childhood field.  I believe that I have gained many new insights that although some were tough to learn about, they are a reality that we must continue to learn about, so we can support many children in need.  Coming from South America there is much poverty but learning that in the US there is much more poverty really makes me sad because this country is known to be the land of opportunity.  The results in children living in poverty affects their education, physical development, emotionally as well as socially.  I also learned that many of these parents do not have an education so there are many social injustices towards them.
I have learned that I must appreciate diversity and be sensitive to children and parents that come from a different background.  It is sad to learn that poverty affects children development and overall their education.    As I explored each week “Save the Children” website it was sad to see how many children around the world are suffering of poverty however this organization is doing wonderful things to reach out to these children and support them especially with providing them education.
Although my family and I are involved in our community I believe that one goal I would like to work harder on is building more relationships with communities, so we can support more children and their families especially being in the early education field.

Professional Goals, Hopes and Dreams

Professional Development
I usually go into the Arizona Department of Education website just to inform myself of the ongoing changes that are happening in education.  I like exploring the Early Childhood Education are.  I like how they have on their page of their “goal to support the work of administrators and teachers in their effort to make high-quality educational opportunities available to all students and to improve student outcomes” They truly have so many resources for family engagement, workforce development, current initiatives and many more resources.  There is also an area exclusively for Early Childhood Special Education.  I really enjoy seeing that there is much support for these children starting in early childhood.  It makes me believe that truly there is inclusion for all children.

My Professional Hopes
I come from a diverse background and I love diversity and appreciate all backgrounds of life.  We can learn so much from diverse cultures and from the customs of people.  Being able to understand them in their own unique way is important to build a partnership and a sense of community.   Everyone must have a voice and be heard to express as well as celebrate their culture and background.

My Professional Goals

My professional goal is to learn as much as I can on the profession of early childhood education and share my knowledge by teaching other professionals that want to teach children.  I would like to provide instruction to future teachers in the field of early childhood, so they can also impact children lives as they become the future leaders of our country.  In addition, my passion is to reach out to professionals as they also learn to celebrate and embrace diversity, so every child can be given the same opportunity to learn no matter what their background is.

Week 6 Sharing Web Resources

As I explored Save the Children and was sent a press release to my email about the singer-songwriter Camila Cabbello becoming the new Ambassador for Save the Children.  I am actually very impressed that celebrities are joining to raise awareness and become advocates for Save the Children’s all around the world.   I enjoyed reading what she said in a press compress that I would like to share with you:
“Save the Children is committed to making sure that every child has the best chance for success, whether it’s giving them an education or protecting them during emergencies,” said Cabello. “I am so connected with their mission, and I’m incredibly honored to be named an ambassador for the organization. I am eager to continue using my voice on behalf of kids in need all around the world.”
Camila was supporting the island of Puerto Rico as they were impacted by Hurricane Maria.  She traveled with Save the Children and visited a daycare in the rural mountainous region where Hurricane Maria ripped through homes, schools and buildings.  She sat down with a group of children and read a book to them.  She also had a concert and donated her proceeds to Save the Children Hurricane Maria Relief Fund.
I am very impressed with the work that Save the Children are doing to help children cope with the trauma and loss and to help them reduce stress as well as teach the to become resilient.  I am very happy to have subscribed to the news because I can see that they are truly engaged in helping children.
