NAEYC & DEC Ideals in Early Childhood Field
1-1.1—To
be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and
to stay informed through continuing education and training.
If I want to continue in the field of early childhood I
must continue to professionally grow with taking training, courses, seminars, anything
that will help me develop my learning and understanding. I want to become a well-trained professional
in the field of early childhood so continuous learning is a must for me.
I-1.10—To
ensure that each child’s culture, language, ethnicity, and family structure are
recognized and valued in the program.
Although I did not come to the US as child but as I was
in my 20s it still came with many challenges in having to learn the English language.
It was not easy to learn English as an adult and I believe that children can
learn a second language easier than adults can.
I had my son and knew that I had to be able to communicate with his
teachers so learning a new education system and being able to get involved was
important for me. As I am now seeking
the field of early childhood education and coming from a different culture I
know the importance of making sure that each families culture and customs
continued to be of value in their children’s learning as in their own.
“We shall demonstrate in our
behavior and language respect and appreciation for the unique value and human
potential of each child”
This professional and interpersonal
behavior reminds me that we are to be advocate for children and be their
voices. We are not above anyone and we
must treat all children with respect and appreciate who they are. Not all children learn that same and there is
not a “one size fits all” in education so we must learn to value each child
learning and understanding as well as making sure that they are reaching their
full potential.

Hi Miguel,
ReplyDeleteTo respect and give value to every family and their culture will make a different in child's live. I came to the US in my twenties too and I have to learn the English language which is not easy but at the end it gives values that I used as a professional to respect and help others to susses.
Miguel,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree when you stated, "I know the importance of making sure that each families culture and customs continued to be of value in their children’s learning as in their own."
I was wondering, how would you take your newfound knowledge and enter a school where they do not celebrate birthday's or any major holidays as respect to families who do not celebrate this at home?
I only ask because this is something that I am struggling with as an educator for a new agency who respects all families but taking out holiday celebrations and birthday celebrations.
DeleteMiguel,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to thank you for your posts and everything you have shared here in this course.
You have shared somethings on a personal level and I can clearly see your passion for early education and to your family.
Thank you again!
